Every time I’ve sent in a lighter (and I’ve sent in three in total), I receive a replacement within a month, no questions asked. That said, both of these companies are said to have outstanding warranty service, and while I haven’t used Zippo’s (yet), I can personally vouch for Xikar’s. It seems like every cigar accessory company touts their lighters as being “durable,” “reliable,” and maybe even “luxurious.” But let me tell you from experience, there is absolutely nothing luxurious about sending in your busted torch lighter for warranty service two times in less than a year (a la my Xikar Element – I’m about to send it in a third time) or finding out, after spending around $40, that your torch won’t light any way but right-side-up (I’m talking here, of course, about the Zippo Blu) and is therefore pretty much useless for cigars. Marketing a cigar lighter is an exercise in the fine art of bullshit.
